World Wide Web (WWW)

The World Wide Web (also known as WWW) is a system in which hypertext documents (web pages) can carry information, photos and other types of multimedia and can be interlinked with other hypertext documents.

The hypertext documents on the World Wide Web use the format HTML, which can support many other links to documents, and can be attained by clicking on hyperlinks. Hyperlinks are located within a highlighted or underlined word or picture that can lead to other hypertext documents.

The World Wide Web is accessed using the internet. The Internet is able to carry World Wide Web hypertext documents and has the ability to support email. Web browsers such as Safari and Google Chrome are used to view hypertext documents.

The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. The first web page was accessible in 1990.
